Local 483 commemorates the:
 NATIONAL DAY OF MOURNING

APRIL 28TH , IS THE NATIONAL DAY OF MOURNING

 

Every year April 28th is recognized as the National Day of Mourning for workers killed on the job or workers killed as a result of workplace disease. It is also offers an opportunity to re-dedicate ourselves to working safely and achieving a safe and healthy workplace.

Membership is asked to remember fallen workers with a moment of silence at 11:00am.
Each year the Local 483 asks the Company to acknowledge this day by lowering the flag.

 

 

Along with workers across Canada, These Local 483 Members are to be remembered on this date.

Confined Space-Buried in Corn
LYNDEN BOAL
Died November 13, 1946
While working in the PowerHouse
Became trapped in a Coal Conveyor
JAMES HARPER
March 13, 1970
While working in a Carmel Kettle
Confined Space-Burned
Days Later, Died of his Injuries

JOHN RYLANDS (retired)
Died December 1, 2002
Asbestosis
From past exposure to Asbestos

BYRON McDONALD
Died November 24, 1978 at 44 years of age

STEVEN JOHNSTON
Died October 5, 1989 at 47 years of age

PEMBER BARKLEY
Died February 1,1993 at 53 years of age

CARMAN COOK
Died March 14, 1998 at 42 years of age
